Environmental Education

The TREE Center’s Environmental Education program is located in Southern Maine on the shores of Bauneg Beg Lake in Sanford, Maine and engages people of all ages, abilities and experience levels. The TREE Center utilizes the waterfront, camp grounds, hiking trails, the state-of-the-art Wormwood Conference Center, and opening in July 2014, the brand new Experiential Education Center.

TREE’s Environmental Education programs are unique hands-on learning opportunities that utilize the shores of Bauneg Beg Lake and over 100 acres of forested landscapes.  These natural resources allow individuals to dive in and take experiential learning to a whole new level.  Join us at the TREE Center for a 2-hour, 4-hour, or 5-week (2hrs./week) program.  All lessons are aligned with Maine State Common Core Standards and Next Generation Science Standards.

“My students thoroughly enjoyed all of their experiences working with Waban. I witnessed some of my most difficult to motivate students having a hands-on, real-world experience and taking thier own initiative to step in and help out.  The writing that these children were able to do far surpassed my expectations.”  (Sherri Baron, teacher)

“Without exception, the students were engaged, excited, and responded well during the lessons.” (Robert Anderson, teacher)

“I thought this program was a wonderful integration of many aspects of learning. It combined: science, lab work, media skills, research, writing, and collaborative thinking/problem solving. I can’t think of any  negatives. For the first time trying such a program, I feel it was implemented extremely well.”  (Parent of a St. Thomas Elementary School student)
